Tamil Nadu, the Gateway to the south, is the land of Tamils and heart land of Southern India. The 7th century port city of Mamallapuram with its spectacular rock-cut temples is a World Heritage Site, while the French enclave of Pondicherry, and British forts and churches reflect the state's colonial history. Kanchipuram Silk, Thanjavur Paintings & Bronze Casting, Madurai Jasmine, the crumbling palatial homes of Chettinadu are notable one. The historic hill stations of Ooty reached by the famous miniature train and Kodaikanal are perfect bases for exploring and provide cool, calm, green contrast to the bustle of cities.
The traditional arts like Carnatic Music, Classical Dance "Bharatnatyam", Folk dance plays a major role in the temple festivals. The temple seasonal festivals occur every month makes the pilgrims to be busy always with their spiritual activities. The dance festival will be held every year in the month of December and January at Mamallapuram attracts many foreign tourists.
